Territorial Dispute

Ranging Calvus (Validumala harena) maintain an extremely large territory, a necessity of their desert environment that has relatively few large prey animals. Two have happened upon each other on a common border, so have initiated a confrontation to settle which presides over the area. The older and larger male has a clear advantage, so wishes to quickly resolve the dispute and opens with an overt display of dominance by sitting up to free its forelegs for striking, roaring all the while; the younger male will most likely back down before the encounter becomes violent. Witness to the event are a few Common Shieldheads (Clypeucervixa fortis) that feed on the abundant Hollowhead Plants (Puteidae clivimum), sensing that they should leave the vicinity, as the victor may be hungry.
