Description

Single-celled organisms form the basis of most ecosystems on Odin, and more than 90% of them are photosynthetic.  The density of the atmosphere allows such microscopic phytoids to exist not only in the water (as on Earth) but also in the air, particularly in the thick cloud layers.  This abundance of phycoerythrin-utilizing plankton causes Odin’s small seas to take on a slight purple hue, and supports several large species of filter-feeders.  Some of these organisms link together in small chains or larger colonial structures to share the nutrients that they build from molecules they are able to pull directly from their environment.
