Scavenging

A Spider Ruts (Contrares araneopoda) has traveled miles along the abyssal plain, following the scent of a large carcass. Other scavengers are already there, Clawfins (Podopala imum) and deep sea Natans (Abyssinixus fastigium) also having gathered from afar while Umbrella Kep (Fusipteriidae sedeolucus) have found places in the seabed detritus to rest until ready to feed again. Many of these animals won't see another meal like this for a long time. More complacent locals are the Pancake Jellies (Plato coenuma), which normally feed directly on the organic particles that drift down from above and cover the seafloor; they simply find this feast an unexpected treat.
