Mosarids

Description

Though a very recent evolutionary addition to Epimethius' ecosystems, Mosarids have quickly risen to the top of their respective niches. Their sleek body and semi-rigid fin enable very efficient swimming, as well as giving them room for a powerful musculature. The distinctive Mosarid head possesses an array of sensors (electrical ampulae, pressure-sensitive ridges, chemosensory nodules) for tracking prey, and four mandibles lined with articulating tooth-like spines take dismembering said prey to an almost industrial level. They have diversified very rapidly, some specializing to cracking open shelled animals, some benthic species developing a trap-like jaw apparatus, some scavenging, and some even hunting in cooperative pack-like harems. But the largest and most impressive specimens have become the most successful predators in Epimethian oceans.
